Humanising Healthcare Interiors
KE-ZU’s thoughtful furniture solutions help to bring warmth and comfort to healthcare interiors, to improve patient experiences.
With growth at an exponential rate, the healthcare industry is rethinking how interiors look and feel. Indeed, across healthcare and wellness spaces, there is a growing need to create welcoming, warm and soothing environments. This desire to craft more comfortable environments has brought a shift in the furniture that is being designed and specified.
In particular, the new generation entering the aged care space is design conscious and responds more positively when contemporary style is present. As such, furniture and interiors play an integral role in helping patients feel comfortable and emotionally secure.
Of particular importance in the broader design of any healthcare or aged care establishment, is seating comfort, as this allows a more enjoyable experience for patients, so they can focus on what really matters. KE-ZU has responded to this need with a range of healthcare-specific designs that care about people, and how they interact with those environments. Moreover, KE-ZU’s attention to quality and design adheres to the most rigorous standards of strength and durability testing required for the contract market. Here we outline five of KE-ZU’s leading ranges, developed specifically for healthcare scenarios.
Scandinavian in style, the collection is based on the form of the Australian Aboriginal boomerang. Starting with a single premise: to design a product that was both ergonomic and aesthetic, with easy access for those with mobility problems, Quim Larrea and his team took the brief and started to puzzle over exactly what shape of arm could manage all of this and still be exceptionally strong. A single chair was born of this premise, to become the nexus of this world changing range. Inspired by the long, gently curving form of the boomerang, this pure, simple form has been meticulously machined to obtain exactly the right curves.
Extrapolating the form into a Nordic design vernacular, Larrea and his team introduced a wax-like finish reminiscent of classic Nordic design. Comprising a range of easy chairs, chaise lounges and ottomans, the range was selected for Designpreis Germany. The ash frame is available in various stained finishes, while upholstery is available in a range of in-house fabrics or the customers own fabric making this a truly versatile and bespoke solution.
Transforming the idea of a bariatric chair, the Sidero Collection posits that form should meet function to address the needs of comfort, safety, durability and performance. This fit-for-purpose design allows comfort for everyone, with an option for bariatric sizing that seamlessly integrates with other options. The collection of multi-purpose stacking chairs has a sculpted look, featuring wide curved arms. The round tubular steel frame limits abrasive contact and is often referred to as the ‘wall saver’. Importantly, the collection is compatible with options that allow the chair to meet rigorous infection control requirements.
Effectively a comfortable armchair that easily turns into a bed, Sleep-Eez can be operated by one person to be used as a chair, a chaise lounge or a bed. Extending to a generous 610 x 1956 millimetre sleeping surface without requiring additional wall clearance, Sleep-Eez is easy to reposition with two non-swivel manual locking casters on the front and two swivel non-locking casters on the back for better steering when moving the chair. Available with solid wood or self-skinned urethane (SSU) arm caps in all standard Globalcare finishes.
With more than 500 healthcare textiles, 17 laminate choices and seven frame choices, this compact sleeper is customisable to any aesthetic palette. Bifma compliant and both Greenguard and Level Certified, it is also one of the most appropriate designs for the wellness industry. The sleeper series sets up easily with a simple pull and flip design, offering a dedicated, cleanable and moisture barriered sleep surface.
Fulfilling Global’s commitment to support the rigours of healthcare environments, Dreme requires no wall clearance when adjusted. Ease of housekeeping features additionally include clean out spaces and optional sealed seams and casters. Moreover, being 1:9 bleach solution cleanable, the design allows for proper cleaning and infection control practices to be performed.
Blending classic elements with mid-century modern design, Kindred is a gently realised timeless classic, that is anything but nanna! Rather, designed by Chris Carter, the lounge and guest chairs feature an elegant ash frame, highlighted by curves in all the right places for eye-catching profiles from every angle. An accompanying range of occasional tables, in a variety of shapes, sizes, and finishes, further complement their seating counterparts to bring warmth, sophistication, and style to any space.
SCS Indoor Advantage Gold certified, the chairs offer an optional clean-out feature between seat and back, non-skid guides are a further option.
