Patricia Urquiola’s best-selling Nuez collection for Andreu World was born from the idea of a gently folded sheet of paper, creating a soft and embracing form. Urquiola and Andreu World have now developed a new outdoor version of the Nuez chair designed specifically for withstanding the weather and external environment.

Like so much of Urquiola’s work, Nuez has a playful, unconventional form while still being practical and comfortable. “Nuez is born from the idea of creating a chair as if it were a sheet of paper,” Patricia describes.

The thermopolymer shell folds along the back of the chair where the arms and backrest meet, suggestive of a doubled-over sheet of paper. The gentle curves of the seat embrace the body and there is subtle linear texture on both sides of the shell.

Nuez is available in six light, neutral and autumnal colours, including white, beige, pale blue, mustard and burnt orange. The optional removable seat cushion is designed for outdoor use, and the new chair comes with a four-legged teak base or metal sled base. The teak is harvested from sustainable forests, and the metal is finished in white or brown and is resistant to outdoor conditions.

The new Nuez chair is a highly versatile seat for hospitality, commercial and residential environments. It complements the existing range of chairs, stools and tables, with the original interior chair receiving first prize in the Hospitality: Seating category of the HiP Awards presented by Interior Design magazine.
