EMU has been designing and manufacturing outdoor furniture since the 1960s and its legacy is punctuated by such greats as the mid-century Rio and more recent Ronda chairs. Now EMU’s Vetta Chair continues to capture the essence of outdoor living with its classic deck chair design. Vetta Chair is by Alfredo Chiaramonte and Marco Marin of ChiaramonteMarin Design Studio. The Italian designers turn their hand to interiors, graphics, lighting and industrial design, and draw inspiration from their daily surrounds. “As designers we walk through life with open eyes and always have our senses focused. From a seemingly insignificant detail sometimes can be born an idea,” they describe. Composed of rope, steel and EMU-tex, Vetta is a laidback leisure chair designed to weather outdoor conditions. It has a tubular steel frame available in different finishes, and synthetic rope armrests that loop from the front to the back of the chair. A slotting device on the frame means the backrest can be set in two different positions, and can be folded over with the ease of the rope that emerges as its ideal extension and then comes full circle, hooking up at the bottom. The sling seat is EMU-tex, a technical fabric made of polyvinyl chloride thread. It has exceptional strength for outdoor use, providing maximum resistance to UV rays, the elements, humidity and sudden changes in temperature. Vetta Chair is available in six colour variations combining greys, browns, black, blue and purple.
