Artifort’s Perching collection has grown from a family of three to a family of four with the addition of a new bar stool. London-based Studioilse, led by Ilse Crawford and Oscar Peña, designed the Perching collection and it is a simple expression of the brand’s ethos. Their mission is to put human needs and desires at the centre of their work, designing furniture and products that support and enhance human behaviour and daily activities. This means creating environments where people feel comfortable: public spaces that feel like home, and homes that make sense for the people that live in them. “We wanted to design a series of stools we could use in our projects,” Ilse explains. “The ones we find hard to source; useful pieces that settle back into their surroundings, but can be pulled together to create casual, occasional spaces.” Perching is a range of comfortable stools for flexible use in public and private spaces: residential, workplace, hospitality. The hand-stitched leather seat gives the stools a sense of tactility, warmth and comfort, while the fine linear structure is visually and physically light and lends the stool an air of transparency. “We wanted the physical lightness and movability of the chair to be translated visually,” says Oscar. “We designed the frame with continuous lines and soft curves so the finished piece is like drawing.” A bar stool now complements the Perching collection, which already comprises a high stool, standard stool and foot stool. Each has a powder-coated steel frame and saddle leather seat with leather cord stitching. The stools are available in four rich and natural colour combinations to be adaptable to their environment; try natural leather with a cream white base; cognac with orange brown; black with black grey; or havana with chocolate brown.
