kezu-blog-lievore-altherr-molina Take an Argentinian architect, a German designer and stylist, and a Spanish industrial designer, and commission them to collaborate with some of the world’s best furniture manufacturers, and the result is a stunning portfolio of work as diverse as the designers themselves. Based in Barcelona, Lievore Altherr Molina is a multi-disciplinary studio specialising in furniture, product, packaging and interior design. It is the union of its three founding partners – Alberto Lievore, Jeannette Altherr and Manel Molina – and very much a union of the designers’ personalities and humanist approach to design. Argentinian-born Lievore seeks to capture the true nature of an object and his designs are fresh, minimalist and functional; German-designer Altherr exudes style and creativity; and Barcelona-native Molina has a flare for the unique and understated. This mergence is seamlessly realised in Lievore Altherr Molina’s design work, which has seen it win Spain’s National Design Award in 1999 and contribute to the contemporary collections of world-class furniture manufacturers, such as Andreu World, Expormim and ENEA. At this year’s Milan Furniture Fair Expormim debuted two new outdoor furniture collections designed by Lievore Altherr Molina. Livit and Falcata fuse the timeless design style of the trio with the sophistication of Expormim, and are influenced by the designers’ interpretation of tradition and modernity. Inspired by the designers’ childhood memories of scorching hot summers, hammock siestas and curling up in a rocking chair with a good book, the Livit evokes the elegance of the laid-back Mediterranean lifestyle. It has soft, generous cushions and angled armrests that balance comfort and lightness, and a slender aluminium frame that almost appears to levitate – as its name also insinuates. Livit includes a variety of modules that can be combined for any outdoor setting and can be customised with a wide array of technical fabrics designed for outdoor conditions. The collection of tables has smooth and sinuous legs like ink strokes of Japanese calligraphy, and no matter the dimensions of the table, the proportions of the legs remain unaltered. The Falcata is available in a variety of shapes (round, rectangular and elliptical), sizes (up to nearly three metres), finishes and table tops (porcelain and laminate) suitable for outdoor use.
