LOFT

Loft is a solid walnut lounge chair with broad planar surfaces extending and merging into lean sinewed arms. The complex joinery is seamlessly fused, showcasing the character and structural quality of the walnut. In the profile view, Loft resembles a tilted martini glass. Winner of the prestigious Red Dot Award in 2011, Loft is a hand-sculpted lounge chair of solid walnut, a bridge between new and old. Loft was designed in a studio course at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, where modern design technologies are combined with more traditional techniques. The Loft chair is hand carved from walnut using laser scanning to reproduce the design. Loft is composed of 23 pieces of wood and 11 different components which create geometrical lines, giving the modern and sleek shape, balanced with the use of the more traditional walnut. Experimentation and tradition are, therefore, the two elements that Shelly Shelly has blended seamlessly.
