  • About the Product

The accents of this table are the subtle curves of its base, making it reminiscent of a piece of hand-made jewelry. The Accent table's slender wood top, available in multiple finishes, is set flush on the polished stainless steel base and shipped fully assembled. Korean and American by nationality, Steve Oh was born in Chicago, but grew up in places as diverse as Austria, Croatia, and South Korea. Oh attended Blair Academy, a private boarding school in New Jersey, and various colleges in Rhode Island and Pennsylvania before deciding to pursue Industrial Design at Art Center College of Design in California. While at Art Center, Oh studied Product Design. His studies were abruptly interrupted for fulfillment of his required two years service with the Korean Army at the Demilitarized Zone. Resuming his studies at Art Center, Oh uncovered his true passion for furniture design and his work was exhibited at the 2011 Milan Furniture Fair. He participated in Herman Miller Design Storm proposing concepts for future workspace and worked in a transdisciplinary studio with Chrysler on showroom enhancements and overall brand direction developments. Accent tables feature a polished stainless steel frame with your choice of either oak or walnut veneer top. Please note that oak veneer tops are rift cut and walnut veneer tops are quarter cut, slip matched. Also available as a cocktail table.
  • The Brand

Orphaned at 13, John Bernhardt jumped a box-car to Oregon hoping to become a government surveyor. He returned home three years later to pursue a career as a timber cutter. After buying a sawmill he saw the opportunity to use timber to make solid oak bedroom furniture. Pretty soon folks in Chicago and New York City started buying this furniture for their homes. And so in 1889 the Bernhardt Furniture Company was born in North Carolina. Berhardt’s skill was in leveraging the area’s plentiful supply of beautiful timbers, and local woodworking skills. Never one to do things by halves, he opened his factory with 25 employees.
